  • As the name denotes, we are delivering Internet connectivity that is dedicated to you and your apartment.

The Network Name (SSID) and Password can both be set to values you choose. All of the devices in your apartment will connect to the access point that has been permanently installed in your apartment.

Smartaira Dedicated Wi-Fi is a managed network which improves connectivity, reliability, and performance.

We regularly monitor, manage, and maintenance the network remotely from our Network Operations Center to ensure a stable Internet connection.

The network infrastructure is built using a high-performance fiber optic backbone, that allows upload and download speeds to be symmetrical (the same). This capability greatly enhances the performance of bi-directional communications like Wi-Fi calling, video conferencing, and working from home.

  • An Access Point (or Wireless Access Point) is a managed network device that provides wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi) back to a wired local area network (LAN).

Access points create a wireless local area network (WLAN) that may support various Wi-Fi standards and devices simultaneously such as Wi-Fi 4 (802.11 N), Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 AC), and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 AX).

Wall-mounted access points are typically about the height of an electrical outlet in the living room and provide ports for wired connections on the bottom.

The access points can also be mounted on the ceiling of the apartment’s living room.

  • You can connect to the Wi-Fi anywhere in your apartment. The Network Name (SSID) and Password were provided at activation.

    Connecting Wireless Devices

    1. Open your wireless device's Network Settings.

    2. Select the Network Name (SSID) for the access point in your home. Depending on the device, you may need to click "Connect".

    3. Confirm the Wi-Fi security setting is "WPA2"

    4.Enter your Password

    5. Click "Join" or "Next"

    6. If you are asked whether the device should be discoverable on your home network, choose "Yes" or "No".

If you need assistance, contact Smartaira Support at 310-974-8776.

  • In your apartment, you’ll have two (2) Ethernet ports on the bottom of the access point in your living room for connecting wired devices.

If you can’t find the hardwired ports, reach out to the Smartaira technical support team.

    Connecting a Wired Device
    1. Using an Ethernet cable, connect the wired device to one of the Ethernet ports.

If you need assistance, contact Smartaira Support at 310-974-8776.

  • We use WPA2 Personal. WPA2 provides the best balance of wireless security, encryption, and compatibility across most devices. WPA2 is based on the full IEEE 802.11i standard including 128-bit AES encryption.

  • Using 128-bit AES encryption (part of WPA2), user data is encrypted in flight between the access point and Wi-Fi devices. Smartaira Dedicated Wi-Fi has a personal Network Name and Password assigned to each apartment (access point).

Each access point is connected to a dedicated virtual local area network (VLAN) that isolates the apartment’s data from other residents on the wired network.

  • Virtual local area networks (VLANs) provide isolation, security, and enhanced usability. On a single physical network, the way network traffic is separated for each account (apartment or resident) is with a VLAN. A VLAN is a virtual network overlay that isolates the traffic for all devices in an account into a separate group. These groups allow the traffic to securely co-exist with traffic from other apartments on the same wired network. VLANs in a multifamily environment improve the resident experience by allowing all devices in an account to communicate with each other. Direct communication between devices allows convenient features like AirPlay, Cast, wireless printing, and more.

  • Your SSID (Network Name) broadcasts a dual-band (5GHz and 2.4GHz) signal.

    Typically, this will support older Wi-Fi 4 (802.11 N, 2.4GHz) IoT devices.

However, if your particular device does not work, please contact Smartaira Support at (310) 974-8776 and they will set up a separate Network Name for each band.

  • No, that is not supported at this time.

  • By default, when you add your gaming device to your account, your device may receive NAT Type 3 errors when you try to use online gaming services. However, changing to NAT Type 2 removes most of the problems you will encounter with Network Address Translation.

A device with an Open NAT (Type 1) can connect to Open, Moderate, and Strict NAT types; a device with a Moderate NAT (Type 2) can connect to Moderate, and Open NAT types; and a device with a Strict NAT (Type 3) type can only connect to another Strict NAT type.

If your gaming environment requires a Strict NAT, please contact Smartaira Support at (310) 974-8776.

IPv4 addresses are a limited resource, so they are not active by default.

  • No. The Internet and Wi-Fi equipment is permanently installed in your apartment.

  • Contact Smartaira Support at (310) 974-8776, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Yes. The but, combination of Wi-Fi credentials (Netword Name and Password) must be unique within the community.

  • Yes. However, once set up Smartaira’s support will be very limited.

Contact Smartaira Support at 310-974-8776 so they can provision the access point in your apartment to pass through to a personal router.

  • Yes.

If you have trouble connecting the device (or remaining connected), you may need Smartaira Support to assign separate network names to the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands.

Your current Wi-Fi signal is “dual-band” (5 GHz and 2.4 GHz). Some IoT devices prefer a dedicated 2.4GHz (802.11 N) network connection.

  • Industry-standard customer premise equipment (i.e. access points) have a line speed of 1 Gbps. However, each packet sent over the network has built-in "overhead" (bits used for addressing, error checking, security, etc.). The overhead is about 2.8-5.3% of the packet size, depending on the size of the original file. So, while the network packets are traveling at 1 Gbps, each packet carries about 94% of your data. So, a Speed Test will reflect a maximum data transfer of about 940 Mbps.

  • Smartaira creates a private and secure home network for every apartment.

Each apartment has its own virtual local area network (VLAN) and personal Wi-Fi credentials to keep your data private.

You won’t want to share your personal credentials with people you don’t trust.
